A lesson in Swaddling

So tonight my cousin's wife Shandy came over to give me a lesson in swaddling. Now to fully appreciate this story you need to know that Shandy's mom is full Navajo Indian and she taught Shandy the technique that her mom taught her when they would put the babies on the papoose boards. You seriously would not believe how tight Shandy can wrap a baby. In fact I'll be honest and tell you that it completely freaked this new mom out. It was all I could do to not unwrap him! I just kept thinking "he must feel so trapped!" Shandy, Curtis and Kami kept making fun of me. I have to admit he slept for 2 1/2 hours without a peep after Shandy wrapped him up. I'm still not convinced I'll be able to do it myself though.

that is so funny! I remember her wrapping Dexter like that too. Shandy will definitely need to give me swaddling lessons as well because 2 1/2 hours of a sleeping baby is a happy time! :)

Swaddling is the best! I don't think I ever mastered it like that though. Babies love to be swaddled and the tighter the better because they feel so secure. Believe me, when they're too old for it - they will break free and get that blanket off!

Guess he's not getting his hand up to his face in the tight wrap!

Jess swears on swaddling for her kids. I know that Melissa's girl hated it but it works for some. I remember when Jess showed me the swaddling I thought the same thing.....unwrap her she is not able to move!!

Ok, now you will have to teach me that! I seriously want to know how to swaddle them tight so when there little hands freak out they don't wake themselves up! Maybe we should invite her to the next enrichment! (Wink,Wink)

I am a big believer in swaddling. It keeps them all snuggly and their hands don't scare them. Peyton always slept so much better swaddled. Remember especially that last month they are all squished up with no room in your tummy so they are more used to it than we realize. Cade still wants to see him so please let us know when we can come by!

Why don't they just invent a straight jacket for babies and make it easier for all of us who aren't good at swaddling? My kids all loved to be swaddled too...anything to keep them sleeping longer. A well rested baby is a happy baby. :)

Shandy's good at swaddling diapers, too. Darren was very impressed with how tight she could wrap up a wet diaper.

Shandy needs to come teach lessons at the hosptial I swear I can never get those babies to stay in their wraps very long at all.

The swaddling thing does work and it helps the little ones sleep longer.
